Most times your email address is the first or lasting impression a potential customer will have. It may be on a business card they receive, via marketing material or from an advertising listing.
Generally speaking, generic emails tend to give your business an unprofessional look. Similar to a hand panted shop or can sign may do...its just not a great first impression.
Emails that end in @outlook.com, @gmail.com or @bigpond.com suggest a lack of professionalism from the outset and in a lot of cases it may suggest to people that your business is either new to the game or lacks professionalism and reliability. Even though I am sure it doesn't!
Using generic URL's, such as www.mysite.wordpress.com can also have a similar effect as a generic email address. But that's another story all together.
A customer will normally remember your business name and quite often from that, also remember your website/domain name. So if your email address is linked to the domain and your business, it encourages the email address to stick in peoples heads too! Even if they lose your business card or other paperwork that may contain your contact details.
The use of easy to remember addresses like info@ or contact@, linked with your domain can assist in making it as easy as possible for clients to reach you.
